Alohi Gilman made a game-high 12 tackles for Navy in its victory last year against Notre Dame. Irish coach Brian Kelly remembers it well. "We got a good look of him against us last season," Kelly said in a statement. Kelly announced Friday that Gilman has transferred to Notre Dame. The safety will be eligible to play for the Irish beginning in 2018. He has three years of eligibility remaining. "He plays the style of safety we want in this program," Kelly said. "Alohi's a run-and-hit safety that fits perfectly in (coordinator Mike Elko's) defense." Gilman finished second on the Midshipmen in tackles (76) and pass breakups (five) as a freshman in 2016. The 6-foot, 195-pounder also had five tackles for a loss, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He appeared in 14 games, making 12 starts, and saw time at outside linebacker, cornerback and safety.
