Liverpool are expected to hand Brendan Rodgers a £50m transfer kitty at the end of the season with a view to strengthening the squad for a Champions League campaign. With defence an occasionally problematic area for Liverpool this season, the Reds are widely expected to move for Schalke's Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Sporting Lisbon's Marco Rojo. Papadopoulos is a long-term target for Liverpool and almost joined the club last summer before suffering a serious knee injury. But the 22-year-old has returned strongly this season, and is seen as just the sort of powerful defender that can provide additional protection to Simon Mignolet.
