MANCHESTER UNITED will turn their attention to Gareth Bale if they fail to lure Cristiano Ronaldo back to Old Trafford. New United boss David Moyes starts work on Monday and Starsport understands the champions will spend a week pressing ahead with their bid to land Ronaldo from Real Madrid. But if the plan stalls, United will turn to brilliant Tottenham star Bale, who won three player of the year awards last season. Reports in Spain say Ronaldo, 28, will meet Old Trafford officials next week. Ronaldo had six happy years working with Sir Alex Ferguson, winning three Premier League titles as well as picking up the Champions League trophy. But persuading Madrid and new manager Carlo Ancelotti to sell the superstar looks a huge challenge and United are set to focus on Bale if they receive no encouragement next week. United have been working on a deal to sign Ronaldo in a £60m switch this summer, as exclusively revealed by Starsport in February. They have been investigating putting together a £250,000-a-week offer, along with club sponsors Chevrolet and Nike. But convincing Tottenham to sell Bale would be a battle. However, the Londoners might find it hard to turn down an £80m offer for the 23-year-old, who scored 19 league goals last season, especially as he shows little sign of signing a new contract at the club.
