After a 7-2 loss to the Mets in the spring finale and before flying to Phoenix on Friday night, the Cardinals took care of a little paperwork. The team officially placed closer Jason Motte on the 15-day disabled list with a strained flexor tendon in his right arm. The team does not have a timetable for when he’ll next pick up a baseball. The Cardinals also made five trims to set their final 25-man roster. The Cardinals reassigned outfielder Oscar Taveras, infielder Greg Garcia, and catcher Rob Johnson to Class AAA Memphis. The club optioned pitcher Maikel Cleto and outfielder Adron Chambers to Memphis as well.
