The Mets and Red Sox have discussed a potential deal that would land righty starting pitcher Zack Wheeler in Boston, according to a report from the New York Post’s Joel Sherman.
From the report:
The talks were described as in the early stages and that Boston is not the only club with whom the Mets are discussing Wheeler. In fact one source said as many as 10 teams have inquired on Wheeler and that the scout section at Citi Field was crowded Sunday when Wheeler started.
Wheeler, 29, had a solid first half for the lowly Mets, going 6-6 with a 4.69 ERA in 19 starts, striking out 130 in 119 innings. He'll be a free agent after this season.
