When everyone zigs, smart general managers zag.
That could be a mantra Phillies executive Matt Klentak uses between now and the July 31 trade deadline to augment a team in need of help. Despite reaching the All-Star Game in a National League Wild Card position, the Phillies could use a bat, starting pitching help and another healthy, reliable bullpen arm.
But adding stars at each of those spots is, well, unrealistic.
Thankfully for Klentak, MLB.com’s Mike Petriello is here to help with an idea: Trade for Pirates center fielder Starling Marte.
While fellow outfielders like Melky Cabrera or Corey Dickerson might be more likely to be on the move, let us at least put the idea of moving Marté out there, just because he would likely bring a larger return.
