Richard Pitino is being rewarded for turning around the Gophers in the 2016-17 campaign. Minnesota announced Wednesday that its men’s basketball coach’s contract would be extended an additional year through the 2021-22 season. Pitino has gone 75-61 in four seasons with Minnesota, and his team won 24 games last season after notching just 8 wins during the 2015-16 season. “I am extremely grateful to be the head coach at such a prestigious university. My family and I love living in the Twin Cities and look forward to continuing to build a strong men’s basketball program on and off the court,” Pitino said in a press release.
