Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones finally granted Tony Romo his release Tuesday after news broke he was retiring to join CBS’ NFL broadcast team. After making the roster move, Jones issued a warm statement, saying the Cowboys “did what he asked us to do” while wishing “Tony and his family nothing but the best.” If we’re being honest, Jones’ decision to release Romo and issue the statement, while classy, both came a few weeks too late. It was already known that teams weren’t going to offer up draft picks in exchange for the injury prone quarterback. And at one point a couple weeks back Romo sent out a video in which it seemed clear to everyone he expected to be released (watch here).
