Defenseman Mike Green is on the ice with his teammates for practice for the first time in a week since suffering a lower-body contusion in Washington’s 4-3 overtime win against the Blue Jackets on Nov. 12. Green sat out the past two games. The Capitals placed Green on injured reserve Sunday retroactive to Nov. 13 to create an opening on active roster, but if he’s ready the blueliner could be activated from IR and able to suit up against Pittsburgh at Verizon Center Wednesday. In the early stages of practice, Green looks to be skating without any limitation as he works through various drills. >> Washington has eight defensemen taking part in practice including Tyson Strachan and Dmitry Orlov, who were brought up after Green was injured and after the team created the extra roster spot by placing him on injured reserve. Whenever Green is activated from IR the Capitals will need to make a corresponding roster move to stay within the 23-man maximum.
