The Capitals are back on the ice for practice Friday morning before traveling to Winnipeg in the afternoon, but they’re missing top defenseman Mike Green. Green missed three games from Feb. 17-23 with a groin-muscle injury but played in Washington’s back-to-back games earlier this week, skating 21:54 against Carolina on Tuesday and 22:14 at Philadelphia on Wednesday. Prior to the 4-1 loss to the Flyers, Coach Adam Oates said he wasn’t overly concerned about Green’s ice time. A team spokesman said Oates will discuss Green’s status after practice, but the 27-year-old’s absence from practice certainly doesn’t offer much encouragement about his health. Without Green in the mix, Karl Alzner is skating with Tomas Kundratek. Check out the full pairings and line combinations below. As for the forwards, Matt Hendricks has been promoted to the top line with Mike Ribeiro and Alex Ovechkin where he took a few shifts at the end of the game in Philadelphia. Jason Chimera is now skating as the third-line left wing while Wojtek Wolski is working with Jay Beagle and Joey Crabb on the fourth. Recent waiver pickup Aaron Volpatti, a natural left wing, will meet up with the team in Winnipeg and at this stage it’s unclear who will sit as the healthy scratch Saturday afternoon against the Jets.
