Someone asked coach Mike Babcock after Saturday’s morning skate what he has liked about young forward Tomas Jurco. “Besides he’s big and fast and skilled and skates and works?” Babcock said. “Looks like a good hockey player to me.” In his first five NHL games, Jurco has two goals, one assist and hasn’t looked out of place at all. At the age of 21, and despite only one season of American League experience with Grand Rapids, Jurco looks ready to contribute at the NHL level. “When they come up here, they’re job is to take someone’s job and have it for the next 15 years,” Babcock said. “People have to take jobs and younger guys have that opportunity when they’re good enough.” Jurco went through a learning experience in Saturday’s 4-3 victory over the Panthers.
