The Mets officially announced they have signed RHP Shaun Marcum to a one-year contract. Marcum reportedly agreed to a one-year, $4 million contract with the opportunity to earn another $4 million in incentives. This afternoon, Marcum spoke with the team's beat reporters and said he is healthy, and is thankful for the opportunity the Mets gave him. "The opportunity to go out and pitch, make 30-plus starts and an opportunity to throw 200 innings – I think that's every starter's goal," Marcum explained. "They're giving me the opportunity to do that and that's something that I couldn't pass up." Marcum would have liked to sign a multi-year deal this winter, but that didn't happen – he believes the Mets afford him the opportunity to make 30 starts this season.
