Jeurys Familia will begin a rehab assignment tomorrow with Single-A St. Lucie, Mets manager Terry Collins said today. Collins said Familia is scheduled to then pitch with Triple-A Las Vegas. If all goes well, the Mets will activate him. Familia was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 12 due to biceps tendonitis. He posted a 3.48 ERA in eight relief appearances over 10 1/3 innings. Collins did not have an update on Frank Francisco. The team’s closer last season, Francisco’s lengthy rehabilitation process has hit a snag. He has not made a rehab outing since May 8 with St. Lucie after he reported soreness. Doctors diagnosed a mild flexor pronator strain on May 13 and told him not to throw over the next three days. Francisco is in the second year of a $12 million contract.
