The New York Mets have hired Tony DeFrancesco as the new manager of their Triple-A affiliate in Las Vegas, sources tell FanRag Sports. DeFrancesco has spent the past three seasons as manager of the Fresno Grizzlies, the Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros. DeFrancesco was named Baseball America’s Manager of the Year during the 2015 campaign, his first at the helm of the Grizzlies. He delivered a Triple-A Championship that year, giving them their first title in 18 years. His managerial career began in 1994, before getting his first major league job in 2008 as the third base coach of the Oakland Athletics. His only MLB managerial experience came during the 2012 season when he filled in as the interim manager of the Astros following the firing of Brad Mills in August of that year. Over his 41 games as manager, the team went 16-25.
