As the Mets go into a winter full of question marks, at least one player stands out as a sure thing heading into 2018: Jacob deGrom. The Mets ace--or co-ace alongside a healthy Noah Syndergaard--is one of baseball's best starters. On the back of a stellar 2017--31 starts, 3.53 ERA, 201.1 IP, 10.7 SO/9, 4.05 SO/BB, 5.0 WAR--the franchise may be ready to commit to the 29-year-old on a long-term deal. According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Mets will explore the possibility of signing deGrom to a deal this winter that would buy out his remaining three arbitration seasons, and possibly eventual free-agent years.
