If the Mets can find a time machine for Adrian Gonzalez, perhaps a bargain-bin star could arrive to jolt New York's offense in 2018. According to Buster Olney of ESPN, the Mets will kick the tires on Gonzalez--a free agent after a release from the Atlanta Braves following last week's blockbuster Dodgers-Braves trade. If the Mets--or any team--signs Gonzalez, the 35-year-old will only have to be paid league minimum for the 2018 season. While any Mets deal with Gonzalez will likely be looked at through the prism of the team trying to save dollars instead of pursuing a higher-end first baseman, there's some merit to bringing the ex-Padres, Red Sox and Dodgers star in for a look in spring training.
