Jenrry Mejia confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com he will need surgery to remove bone spurs from his pitching elbow after the season. Mejia said team doctors recommended having surgery right away after discovering the spurs in May. At the time Mejia was experiencing continued discomfort during a rehab assignment with Class A St. Lucie and had been dispatched to New York for a medical exam. Mejia told the team doctors he wanted to finish the season then have the procedure. He takes anti-inflammatory medication to deal with the swelling and discomfort.
