Almost casual the afternoon shift Max Scherzer worked Sunday at Comerica Park in running his staggering 2013 record to 18-1 all courtesy of the Tigers’ 6-3 victory over the Royals at sold-out Comerica Park. Scherzer overpowered the Royals on a day when the Tigers mustered up 12 hits with Miguel Cabrera handling the brunt of Detroit’s offense as is his habit. Cabrera slammed a two-run home run into the left-field seats in the first inning against Bruce Chen and added a third-inning single for his third RBI of the day. Brayan Pena drove in a run with a double Ramon Santiago sent home another run with a single and Torii Hunter added a sacrifice fly as the Tigers won three games during their five-game series against the Royals which bumped manager Jim Leyland’s team’s record to 73-51. Scherzer is now 34-8 since the start of 2012. He worked eight innings Sunday allowing five hits walking none and striking out four. The Royals had only two hits against him until scoring twice in the seventh on a single and back-to-back doubles.
