The Nashville Predators and defenceman Mattias Ekholm have been engaged in contract negotiations since the off-season, but the two sides have not yet been able to finalize an extension.
Ekholm, 31, is in the final year of a six-year, $22.5 million contract and can become an unrestricted free agent in July 2022 if he does not agree to a new deal with the Predators.
The Predators entertained trade calls for Ekholm last season before they made a rush to the playoffs. At the time, the Preds were looking for a package that included a first-round draft pick. If the Predators do not sign Ekholm to a new contract, it’s possible GM David Poile takes calls again this season.
