Matt Cain came oh-so-close to the Barber. That would be Sal "The Barber" Maglie, who won nine consecutive starts for the New York Giants in 1952. Cain brought an eight-start win streak into Sunday's game against the A's. No San Francisco Giants pitcher has won nine straight starts in one season. That's still the case, though Cain certainly put himself in position to match Maglie's feat. Cain held Oakland to a run on three hits in seven innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
