Longtime Mariners president and COO Chuck Armstrong will retire effective January 31 of next year, the team announced via press release. The 71-year-old has served as president for 28 of the last 30 seasons, the club noted. "Thanks to our outstanding ownership, the franchise is stable and will remain the Northwest's team, playing in Safeco Field," said Armstrong. The only regret, said Armstrong, was that the club never achieved a championship during his tenure. Seattle will now begin the process of finding a replacement and transition responsibilities, the club added in its release
