The Seattle Mariners have added some depth behind the plate while claiming catcher David Freitas off waivers from the Atlanta Braves, the clubs formally announced on Friday. A 15th-round MLB Draft pick by the Washington Nationals back in 2010, Freitas has spent the vast majority of his professional career in the minor leagues. He was an All-Star for Single-A Hagerstown in 2011, but never made it past the Advanced Single-A threshold with the Nationals before ultimately being traded to the Oakland Athletics in 2012. Freitas spent his first season in the Oakland organization splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A with the Midland Rockhounds and Sacramento River Cats, respectively.
