Manchester United are ‘very close’ to signing Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt, according to reports in Spain.
Barcelona were heavy favourites to land the 19-year-old this summer having already secured a £65 million deal to sign his Ajax teammate Frenkie de Jong.
Reports in Spain claim that Barca have already agreed a €70m (£61.7m) transfer fee with Ajax for De Ligt, but the move has been held up as the defender’s agent Mino Raiola is demanding a 20 per cent commission.
But now, Catalan radio station RAC1 report that United are in pole position to sign De Ligt and the Netherlands international is ‘very close’ to a move to Old Trafford.
The report claims that the deal is not yet finalised but De Ligt has received an offer from United which is ‘too good to turn down’.
