Manchester United are monitoring Napoli midfielder Jorginho as they ponder a replacement for Michael Carrick. M.E.N. Sport understands United are admirers of the 26-year-old Italy international and have shortlisted Jorginho as a potential midfield recruit ahead of next season. United have already scouted Borussia Dortmund duo Julian Weigl and Christian Pulisic. Holding midfielder Jorginho scored in Napoli's 4-2 Champions League defeat to Manchester City and was dubbed 'wonderful' by Pep Guardiola, who dubiously claimed the Neapolitans were 'perhaps the best I've faced in my career'. Jorginho has started 15 of Napoli's 18 Serie A fixtures in defensive midfield, scoring twice and providing three assists. A Napoli website claimed on Wednesday the Italian leaders had received a 'big offer' from an English club. The M.E.N. revealed last week United manager Jose Mourinho wants to sign a central midfielder in the January transfer window but Jorginho would be cup-tied in Europe, having played in the Champions League. United captain Carrick has not played since September 20 after he underwent a heart procedure. The 36-year-old was last included in a matchday squad at Southampton on September 23 and his contract with the club expires at the end of the season.
