Manchester United considered signing Atletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams to replace the departed Romelu Lukaku, according to reports.

After a long, drawn-out transfer saga, Lukaku finally got his preferred switch to Serie A giants Inter on deadline day, for a fee of £73.7million.

Although it was clear the Belgian wouldn't be suited to the way Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to play football at United, his departure does leave United short up-front.

Leaving just Marcus Rashford as the only senior, natural striker, with Anthony Martial and 17-year-old Mason Greenwood as reinforcements.

Solskjaer opted not to bring in a replacement in order to prioritise the development of Greenwood, though they did try to bring in Paolo Dybala in a deal that would have seen Lukaku go to Juventus instead.
