Manchester United have finally ended their pursuit of Gareth Bale– ruling out a move for the Real Madrid winger.
The Wales international is available this summer as Real seek to fund a massive rebuild under Zinedine Zidane.
But United have rejected the chance to talk to the Spanish giants over the prospect of a permanent or loan move.
Ed Woodward has targeted Bale in every summer window since taking charge of Old Trafford’s recruitment in 2013.
But United’s executive vice-chairman has discarded his long-held dream to see the 29-year-old in the famous red shirt as he backs Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s drive to recruit the best emerging domestic talent this summer.
