Striker Suarez flew to Melbourne from Montevideo to join Liverpool’s pre-season preparations after a three-week break following his Confederations Cup exertions. Suarez, who was accompanied by Uruguay team-mate Sebastian Coates, will now meet manager Brendan Rodgers and managing director Ian Ayre face to face for the first time since publicly stating his desire to quit Anfield. Rodgers will make it clear to Suarez not only that Liverpool – who play Melbourne Victory at the MCG on Wednesday – do not want to sell him, but also the loyalty and debt he owes a club who have stood by him despite his misdemeanours. The last bid for Suarez of £35m was made by Arsenal 10 days ago and, as of last night, there had been no fresh bid.
