Severino will begin a minor-league rehab assignment on Sunday if he has no health issues during or after Monday’s three-inning simulated game in Tampa. Boone said that he believed Severino would start out pitching for the low-A Tampa Tarpons.
“I don’t know exactly what they have planned for that first game, if it’s one inning, two innings, what the pitch counts starts at,” Boone said. “But we will progress him gradually from there. I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves. I want (Monday) to go well, and then obviously that next step is another big one, into a game with a team. So let’s get past (Monday) and hope everything goes well.”
