Louisville defensive end Lorenzo Mauldin will miss spring practice due to shoulder surgery. Mauldin's surgery, on the glenoid labrum in his shoulder, is not expected to impact his playing status for the 2014 season, but it will hold him out of the Cardinals' first spring practice with Bobby Petrino. The 6-foot-4, 243 pound junior ranked 19th in the country, and second on the team, in sacks (9.5) while starting every game opposite All-American defensive end Marcus Smith. Mauldin's development has played a big part in the improvement of Louisville's defensive front over the last two seasons, but now he will be asked to take on a different role in Todd Grantham's 3-4 defense. "We're going to play an aggressive, attacking style," Grantham said Thursday morning after his hire became official. "I believe in attacking the quarterback not only physically, but mentally. "I think it's critical that you're good against the run," he added.
