Louisville basketball freshman Quinn Slazinski was noticeably absent from the team's tipoff luncheon Wednesday, but he had a good reason for not being there.

Slazinski is currently hospitalized with appendicitis and may need to undergo surgery, according to coach Chris Mack.

"About two hours ago I thought he was having surgery, and now antibiotics might allow him not to," Mack told reporters at around 1:30 p.m. "We’re going to know in about 24 hours whether he’s going to have surgery or not."

The surgery, if it were to take place, would only sideline Slazinski briefly, Mack added, in comments he made following Louisville basketball's tipoff luncheon at the downtown Marriott.
