While it has long been expected that Kingston Frontenacs center Shane Wright is going to be drafted by the Montreal Canadiens with the top pick in the NHL Draft, there has been late movement in the odds for United States Development Program center Logan Cooley to get taken with the first pick.
As of Tuesday, Cooley was a distant third behind Wright and Slovakian winger Juraj Slafkovsky, and that remains the case at most sportsbooks, but the odds started moving Tuesday night on Bet365, with prices for Cooley to go first overall going from +2000 on Tuesday to +700 by Wednesday morning.
As of Sunday, Cooley was priced as high as +4000 at Bet365 to be the first pick.
Cooley is a playmaking center from the United States Development Program who has committed to the University of Minnesota next season. He led the U.S. Under 18 team in points per game with 75 points in 51 games during the 2021-2022 season. Cooley is ranked as high as No. 2 by quite a few of the public pre-draft rankings, but none of them have him ranked No. 1.
