Liverpool remain hopeful of striking a deal with Norwich City for 22-year-old Northern Ireland international left back Jamal Lewis today despite reports that their formal bid of £10M was rejected by the newly relegated side.

Talk in recent days Liverpool valued Lewis at £10M while Norwich wanted £20M to allow him to leave suggested the two sides were a long way apart, and a report from The Times’ Paul Joycetoday claiming Norwich had rejected such a bid out of hand appeared to confirm as much.

However, that news from Joyce was followed by The Telegraph’s Chris Bascombe claiming the club still believed a compromise was possible and then from The Guardian’s Andy Hunter suggesting Liverpool were preparing an improved offer.
