Jurgen Klopp has not been scared to sign a relegated player while manager of Liverpool.

Andy Robertson and Xherdan Shaqiri both made the switch and improved the team while Klopp has been equally willing to poach players from anywhere in the table.

With news that Ryan Fraser is due to leave Bournemouth at the end of his contract this month it is worth considering what the Scottish winger could offer.

After all, based on their previous purchases, we cannot rule out a move for a talented player just because he’s been playing for a relegation candidate.

In the 2018/19 season, in which Fraser featured in all 38 of the Cherries’ Premier League games, he had by far the highest expected assists (xA) total in the league, according to StatsBomb data via FBRef.

His xA tally of 12.2 was three clear of nearest challenger Eden Hazard, the only player to record more than Fraser’s 14 actual assists, and 3.1 ahead of Liverpool’s top performer Mohamed Salah.

There has been a bit of a drop-off this season, with Fraser starting just 21 games and failing to find the same rhythm, but his xA of 4 still puts him in the top 25 in the league, below Liverpool’s regular front three of Salah (5.7), Sadio Mane (5.2) and Roberto Firmino (5.0).
