Liverpool had the chance to sign new Swansea striker Wilfried Bony after taking the Ivorian star on trial at the age of 19 reports the Daily Express. According to Leeds United legend Brian Deane - who now manages Sarpsborg 08 in the Norwegian top-flight - Bony had a trial at Anfield five years ago and although he impressed Reds coaches the Merseyside club turned down the opportunity to offer the player a contract. "Wilfred Bony with 2 goals for Swansea? I took him to Liverpool from the Ivory Coast for a trial 5 years ago it's turned out well for him" Deane said on Twitter. "He [Bony] wasn't an international at the time he was 19 and his club Issia Wazi would have accepted 5 figures but it's up to [the] clubs." Bony was on the scoresheet twice in last night's 4-0 Europa League victory over Malmo making an impressive start to life at the Liberty Stadium following his £12million move from Vitesse Arnhem earlier this summer.
