Yesterday, Joe Gomez suffered a serious knee injury in training with the England national team. Today, he underwent surgery to repair a torn patellar tendon, and even in a best case scenario that likely means he will miss most of the 2020-21 season.

Along with Virgil van Dijk’s season-ending ACL injury, it leaves the Reds dangerously light at the back, and so an intensification of transfer rumours linking the club with all manner of centre half ahead of the January transfer window seems inevitable.

On that front, TeamTalk today claim Liverpool midfielder Gini Wijnaldum has recommended national team teammate Daryl Janmaat to the club.
