Leicester City are ready to slug it out with Crystal Palace for Burnley ’s defensive linchpin James Tarkowski.

Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has renewed his interest in Tarkowski after being priced out of a move for the England centre-half last summer.

Leicester felt Tarkowski, 27, could replace Harry Maguire, but Burnley warded them off by slapping a prohibitive £50million price tag on the former Charlton defender.

Rodgers still likes Tarkowski and he features on Leicester’s summer hitlist of defensive targets along with Bournemouth ’s Nathan Ake and Southampton ’s Jannik Vestergaard.

The Ulsterman wants to boost his options at centre-half with a proven Premier League performer, especially if the Foxes qualify for the Champions League.
