Mike Leake assured himself of pleasant thoughts in the offseason with an outstanding performance in his 2012 finale. Leake pitched eight innings as the Reds beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 Tuesday night before a crowd of 19,159 at Great American Ball Park. He allowed one run and six hits, walked two and struck out two. Leake reached 167 2/3 innings so the Reds are shutting him down the rest of the season, as clubs often do with young pitchers. "My last two outings were my best," Leake said. "... I'm sure it will give me confidence when spring training starts."
