The Cardinals have listed “to be announced” as their starter for Saturday night’s second game of a three-game series here with the Tampa Bay Rays. Many have interpreted that to mean that righthander Jack Flaherty, the top pitcher currently at Memphis, would be coming up to pitch on his fifth day and that struggling Mike Leake would be skipped for at least one turn. This would be news to Leake, who very likely will make this start. “I’m planning on it,” he said. Leake, after compiling a 5-2 mark and 1.91 earned run average for his first nine starts, has lost 11 of 13 decisions since then with an ERA of 5.91. Manager Mike Matheny, on Thursday afternoon, would not tip the Cardinals’ hand. Leake, who is in the second year of a five-year contract with the club, said he wasn’t concerned about the uncertainty other than that there shouldn’t be any.
