Jerred Smithson, come on back, Trevor Smith, take a rest. With Smith suffering a broken bone in his hand Tuesday and being moved to the injured reserve list, the Leafs are down three centres, counting David Bolland (ankle) and Tyler Bozak (oblique muscle). That prompted a call to the Marlies on Wednesday afternoon, telling Smithson to leave the team on the eve of their road match in Rochester and be ready for the Maple Leafs' game Thursday against the Phoenix Coyotes. Smithson is a lanky centre who spent 13 games with the Leafs earlier this season, signing a one-way deal after starting the year with the Marlies. He was sent back when Bozak first returned from a hamstring injury and Smith proved himself an integral part of the team during his own recall from the farm. Smithson had no points in 13 games of mostly fourth line duty, but was a big help on faceoffs. It's not believed Smith will require surgery after blocking a shot in the upper body.
