LaVar Ball has drawn criticism for his brash style of personal marketing ever since he jumped onto the national scene thanks to Lonzo Ball's collegiate success. The elder Ball's constant use of his sons' basketball careers to further his Big Baller Brand company is well documented, but this time, LaVar might have finally crossed the line.
LaMelo Ball, currently playing at Spire Institute, will not play in Spire's next game due to a broken finger. Rather than rallying fans to support the team playing without one of its stars, LaVar urged fans to not come to the game, as LaVar and LaMelo will not be attending.
Melo will not be playing in tomorrow’s game at Spire due to a broken finger. Please don’t make any plans to come watch Spire play tomorrow, if you’re expecting to watch Melo and the Ball Family. They will not be attending the game due to his injury. Thank you for all your support pic.twitter.com/PlnVxlfYvg— Lavar Ball (@Lavarbigballer) February 5, 2019
LaVar's comments here are disturbing. Declaring that fans should avoid going to his son's team's game just because his son will not play raises concerns about LaMelo's commitment to the team and leadership ability--they are not even showing up to the game!
