The Avalanche has another vacancy on its coaching staff. Kirk McLean, the Avs’ goalie coach since 2010, is no longer with the organ-i-zation. I don’t know whether he was fired or he just left on his own, but I guess it doesn’t really matter. McLean was never a full-time employee of the team. He was called a “consultant.” You saw him around the rink quite a bit, though, but the rest of the time he was back in Vancouver, where he has other business interests, like a restaurant. The Avs have not named a replacement yet. The Avs also got more competition in the search for a new head coach today from the Dallas Stars, who fired Glen Gulutzan. All the available candidates just got another team with which to apply.
