Havard Rugland was so excited after he hit his first field goal that he nearly forgot about his next task. “David (Akers) told me right after ‘Hey Havard you’ve got to kick off. Come on’” Rugland said. “I was celebrating. I was pretty happy.” The Norwegian sensation nicknamed “Kickalicious” had an impressive debut in the Lions’ 26-17 win over the Jets Friday. Rugland went 2-for-2 on his field goal attempts hitting from 49 yards in the third quarter and 50 yards in the fourth quarter. After Rugland’s first field goal his teammates picked him up on the sidelines and several tapped him on the helmet. “He’s a great guy and it’s refreshing to see how much fun he’s having” Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford said of Rugland. “He’s just having a blast here and he’s kicking it great. It’s just refreshing to think that this is the first football game he’s ever been to and he’s in the NFL and making 50-yard field goals.” Oh yeah this NFL exhibition game just so happened to be Rugland’s first time playing in a football game at any level. “I want more games” Rugland said. “I liked it. It was a great experience.” For Rugland to make the Lions or any other NFL team he has to prove he’s consistent in addition to having a powerful leg. Unfortunately for Rugland his competitor kicked well too. Akers the veteran with the inside track to placekicking duties also went 2-for-2 on field goals making from 47 and 35 yards.
