John Calipari believes college basketball needs spring football to prosper.
Wait, let him explain. He makes more sense of it.
"It would be good for college basketball if we start playing in August," Calipari told reporters following Kentucky's victory over Michigan State in the 2019 Champions Classic. "Each of us get seven days, play against each other in exhibition games … like spring football. We do college basketball in August. I've been begging for it for years."
It's possible Calipari has made this a public issue before, but it's the first I'd heard of it. If he is doing it behind the scenes, through the National Association of Basketball Coaches lobbying the NCAA, it has been a relatively quiet process.
