Marvin Lewis’ favorite season, otherwise known as Speculative Football, is in full swing and it got a giant bump when Niners safety Dashon Goldson went on Sirius XM NFL Radio and joined Tim Ryan and Pat Kirwan on Movin’ The Chains. Goldson did not receive the franchise tag from San Francisco and is slated to hit the market unless the two sides can hammer out an extension. Ryan, who does preseason television for the Niners, said one place that would be a great fit for Goldson if he didn’t return to the Niners was the Bengals. Said Goldson: “I like those guys down there. I went to school with Reggie Nelson, played with Nate Clements, I was here with Taylor Mays and Manny Lawson so I’m familiar with some of those guys and how they play. They’ve got a good football team down there. They’re on track and they’ve got a good quarterback and receivers. I will have to consider all my options and we’ll have to see whose interested in me.” Interesting comments from a player who could be a good fit here and sent Twitter and Bengals’ fans hearts aflutter over the prospect of Goldson in stripes. He’s a big hitter who has good coverage skills but not a liability and could be a good fit here, which we have never disputed. Also, at this stage Goldson is not going to discount any team seeking his services, especially if the money is right. However, here’s the rest of the story. Goldson when asked about the Niners said: “I still hope there’s a future for me in San Francisco but as far as the overall feeling, it feels good. I really hope something works out in San Francisco, its home for me. We’re making good progress of bringing that tradition back. Right now, there has not been much talk. Hopefully something picks up and if they are not, I will be interested in what other teams would have to say.”
