Kamall Richard’s freshman campaign with the men’s basketball team has ended early. The 6-foot-6 freshman forward tore the ACL in his left knee at Friday’s practice and is out for the season. Richards’ knee gave out as he cut through the lane on a drill, and the gravity of the injury was promptly apparent by his reaction. He was assisted off the court and iced right away. He later underwent imaging that confirmed the tear. As Richards prepares for surgery next week, Xavier will look into the possibility of a medical redshirt. Richards still made the trip to DePaul and is with the team now. XU faces the Blue Demons at 4 p.m. Monday at Allstate Arena. The rookie hasn’t checked into a game since Dec. 28 against Wake Forest, the Musketeers’ non-conference finale. He averaged 3.3 minutes in seven games with a season-high six in the opener.
