When it came to defensive acquisitions, the summer of 2019 was a busy one. Juventus, in need of a youthful injection, went out and signed three center backs — Matthijs de Ligt, Merih Demiral and Cristian Romero, the latter going right back out on loan to Genoa. While the first two clearly showed they have a future with the Italian champions, there has been a question mark as to whether or not the young Argentine would actually get a chance at Juventus despite the club paying €26 million for his services last summer.

Fourteen months after he first signed with the club and underwent his medical exams in Turin, Romero still has yet to play a game for Juventus.

And it looks like it will stay that way for at least the next year or two, if not longer.
