It wasn't with Josh Beckett in mind that Billy Joel wrote "I Go To Extremes." But there is no more fitting soundtrack for the polarizing right-hander's uneven season. As the Red Sox concluded a four-game series against the Tigers last night at Fenway Park, Beckett lugged to the mound a 4.15 ERA that would've looked even better if not for a pair of wretched starts. Subtract those seven-run poundings, April 7 in Detroit and May 10 by the Cleveland Indians, and his ERA was 2.19.
