Carolina Hurricanes center Jordan Staal issued a statement Wednesday about the death of his infant daughter, Hannah. "This has been a longer road than most people know. Our little Hannah had a terminal birth defect," Staal and his wife said in a statement released by the team. "While we prayed for a miracle, or even a few more minutes with her, she came into this world stillborn. Nonetheless, we are still very thankful for our short time with her." Staal said he and his wife have been "absolutely amazed by the support we've received from our friends, family and the whole hockey community. We just wanted to say thank you." General Manager Ron Francis and Head Coach Bill Peters have both said the team would give Staal as much time as he needs before he returns to the ice.
