John Lackey's long journey back to the mound is nearing an end. After throwing live batting practice again yesterday at Tropicana Field, Lackey has been scheduled to pitch an intrasquad game in Fort Myers on Sunday, his "last duty of the year," according to Red Sox [team stats] manager Bobby Valentine. "He feels really good about where he is," Valentine said. Ten months ago, Lackey underwent Tommy John elbow surgery, a procedure that typically requires a yearlong recovery. Over the past two weeks, he faced hitters in three sessions of live batting practice, displaying improved command each time. Yesterday, he increased his workload to 27 pitches over two simulated innings.
