Tennessee athletic director John Currie issued a statement Wednesday morning regarding player safety after a report surfaced on thereadoptional.com regarding the health of Vols offensive lineman Brett Kendrick. The website, citing a source, reported that Kendrick played a portion of Saturday’s game against Kentucky with a concussion. “We would never, ever knowingly put a student-athlete in harm's way," coach Butch Jones said during Wednesday's SEC teleconference. Jones said the team's medical staff has full authority on return-of-play decisions. “I have absolutely no say in these decisions," Jones said. Jones said Kendrick would be out for Saturday's game against Southern Mississippi.
